Jacky Witherspoon - SD Cured by Thyroid Support

by Jacky Witherspoon, Greenwood, SC - Jackycat3@aim.com

My journey with SD has been a long one.

I came down with SD in 1996 when I was 26 years old.

Back in 1996, most doctors in Tallahassee , FL did not know about SD so it wasn’t until 1999 and the internet, that I self diagnosed. I saw counselors and tried speech therapy.  I refused botox because it just didn’t feel right.  I did a lot of reading on the internet and just couldn’t find the right cure.

I pretty much had given up on doing anything about my SD until the summer of 2008.  The National Institutes of Health (NIH) contacted me and wanted me to be a “guinea pig” for some of the new drugs they were testing for SD. I had nothing to lose and decided to go for it. After 2 visits, I felt it was another dead end street. The NIH wasn’t interested in searching for the causes to SD. They just wanted to treat it.  I wanted to find the cause so I cancelled the NIH visits and decided to look for a doctor that would treat me holistically to see what was going on in my body.

I am currently living in Greenwood , SC and I found a wonderful Nutritionist 30 minutes away in Clinton, SC.  Dr. Charles Campbell is also listed as a DAN doctor. DAN doctors are approved to help children with Autism .  Their specialty is chelating the body from heavy metals.  Heavy metal was the one thing that kept popping up in my research online and neurological disorders. I knew that there may be a connection to it and my SD.  I had a lot of silver “ mercury” fillings in my mouth.

In 1995, due to a prescription drug called accutane, I came down with several cavities and had to have lots of fillings. In the month of December 1995, I had a filling put in each week. My health quickly deteriorated and I came down with horrible sinus infections. By February of 1996, I had complete voice loss.  I kept records of all my dental procedures and presented this to NIH as proof that my mercury fillings may have contributed to my SD. They were completely uninterested and said it was just coincidental.

Thank goodness for Dr. Campbell. The first thing that Dr. Campbell did was do a hair analysis.  My results came back that I had high copper and lead toxicity. I thought surely it was going to be mercury but that was low.  I also had low calcium , zinc and magnesium . So we started chelating the copper and lead out of my body and supplementing all the vitamins and minerals I was depleted.

I started to feel a little better but the voice was still touch and go. Finally, I showed Dr, Campbell Julie Melody’s online story “thyroid support to healing her SD”. (See http://www.spasmodicdysphonia.us/jmelody.html). He mentioned he had a supplement that would help T3 levels.  The supplement was called GTA-Forte II and it was a miracle. My voice the following morning was clear and smooth and I did not have that smoker’s voice I always had in the morning. That was in April of 2009 and I am still fine with my voice.

In the middle of all my chelating process, I did manage to remove all of my “mercury” fillings. It was costly but I kept reading that all heavy metals are endocrine disruptors and affect your thyroids. So I wanted my body to be rid of all heavy metals.

In conclusion, I highly recommend finding out what’s going on in your body first and go from there.  A hair analysis is a map to what’s happening in your body.

I hope I have offered another aspect to battling this SD monster.

Below is a link to the GTA Forte and also an article addressing heavy metals as endocrine disruptors.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have questions on any of my statements above.

Thank you again for posting your information on the web. You helped heal me and I am forever grateful.
